Charles Lindbergh was the first aviator to complete a solo transatlantic flight.
In May 1927, he successfully flew his plane, Spirit of St. Louis, from New York to Paris. The feat made him an international hero, and he later wrote a Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the experience.

The pioneering aviator died in 1974 at age 72.
